1. Why do I want HDTV?
Answer:
HTDTV is the next gernaration of television! HDTV is all digital, meaning richer colors and no analog reception issues, such as ghosting. Its wide screen 16x9 image has up to six times the resolution of DVD, and fukk Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. Once you have seen HDYV on a large screen high resolution television, DVDs look poor in camparision!
2. What do I need in order to receive HDTV?
Answer:
You'll need an antenna and an off-air (8VSB) receiver, along with an HDTV compatible television. Many HDTV receivers are available: standalone units, models combined with DSS receivers, or digital video recoders.
Some of the newer televisions come with compatible HDTV receivers built in.
The antenna you'll need depends on your location and what channels you require, it could range from a small antenna that sit on top of your television, or a large antenna mounted on a tower or the roof of your home. The anntenna system may include: UHF antenna, mounting system, preamplifier and rotor.
Although you will only receive the full benefit of HDTV with a compatible television or display device, HDTV channels can still be viewed on regular televisions but at lower resolution.
3. Do I need a special HDTV antenna?
Answer:
No! Any UHF antenna in good condtion would work fine. Some antennas are advertised asbeing "digital" or "HDTV" ready, which could be said about any UHF antenna no matter how old it is.
4. What channels can't I receive of an antenna?
Answer:
Off-air broadcasts are typically limited to major networks: ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, PBS and so on, HDTV channels, such as ENCOR HD, HBO HD, STARZ HD and so on are only available on cable or satellite.
5. Will I need to do anything as cable and satellite subscribers?
Answer:
No! If you subscribe to cable or satellite, your service provider has converted the digital signals so you can continue to watch your local broadcast stations after the digital conversion. But if you have an analog television set that isn't connected to your cable or satellite system for example (a television set in your bedroom with "rabit ears") it will dispaly only snow. You will need to connect eveery television set you own to a cable or satellite sstem, or you will need to purchasea "digital converter box" for each analog television set.
6. Do I need to buy HD Television set?
Answer:
No. You don't have to purchase a High Definition television set in order to watch broadcast television. All you need is an antenna and a digital tuner or a converter box connected to your analog television set. A digital tunner connected to an analog television set will never display a High Definition (HD) picture, which you will still be able to watch Standard Definition (SD) progamming. The bad news is that every analog television set in your home will need its own digital tuner. A low cost digital converter box will save you money if you don't care about High Definition Television (HDTV).
7. What is High Definition television?

High Definition television (HDTV) is a television picture with more reaalistic looking picture than the television you are used to watching, An HDTV set displays pictures that are sharper, wider and free of interference. An HDTV picture closely resembles what you would see in movie theaters. The sound could be beter than CD quality and also it can be Surround Sound for a real home theater experience.
8. Why did we change to digital TV?
Answer:
Congress passed a law mandating that all television stations broadcast a digital signal by year 2002. All TV stations were to broadcast a digital and analog signal until June 12, 2009. On that day all analog transmitters throughout the USA were was turned off and our analog broadcast frequencies returned to the government. The digital conversion is now complete, and Congress is supposed to auction off the old analog channels. Congress expects to generate a lot of money by auctioning off these frequencies. And the, Congress is supposed to use the money to balance the budget (Deficit Reduction Act of 2005).
